Life Journals Bless Many in India
Church leaders receive valuable training through the Life Journal
India Partners was recently awarded a $10,000 grant by the Tyndale House Foundation to underwrite a three-day gathering to teach discipleship training skills to 250 church leaders in India. The training will integrate the use of the Life Journal, a Bible study tool, to further spiritual growth for pastors, church leaders and ultimately their congregations.
The Life Journal, written by Pastor Wayne Cordeiro, is a personal discipleship tool that encourages growth within a personal faith journey through reading, studying and applying the Bible, with a focus on prayer. The Life Journal was translated into Telugu in 2006 with funding provided by the Tyndale House Foundation and India Partners.
India Partners has underwritten two previous discipleship training gatherings, in 2008 and 2009, with the help of our partner, Pastor Babu, founder of Orphans Faith Home. Through the 2009 gathering, 255 returning and new church leaders learned how to use and study the Bible with the Life Journal. Because these trainings have been so successful, India Partners is expanding the work to include two other partner agencies: Living Sacrifice Ministries, led by Pastor Eliezer and his wife Prema, and India Abundant Ministries, led by Pastor Isaac Benarjee.
The church leaders who have been trained to use the Life Journal have found it helpful in their daily study of the the Bible, as well as teaching the Bible to others. One such church leader, Chakravarthi, shares his experience below:
Thanks to Pastor Babu, my parents and I met Jesus 10 years ago. One day, while I was in prayer with Pastor Babu, God called me to His ministry. I shared this vision with Pastor Babu, and he sent me for Bible training for two years. After the training, I came back to OFH and worked as a youth pastor.
Soon after, I married a Christian girl and we both attended the discipleship training program in October 2009. The training was so blessed and helped both of us to learn so many things from the Bible, especially, how to divide the work and analyze the work in the Bible. My wife was so joyful and received so much material through the discipleship training program. We both noted down all the teaching in the training.
The Life Journal is a book that has really blessed us spiritually. We are keeping the Life Journal with us all the time, along with the Bible. Thanks to India Partners for providing such a wonderful discipleship training program for young pastors like us. We request OFH to conduct many training programs in the future for many young people, church leaders and women for the spiritual benefit in their ministry.
