Mob Leader’s Daughter Healed

Our partner, Orphans Faith Home (OFH), has helped to raise and educate more than 1,500 orphans and other needy children in Andhra Pradesh. OFH supports local school teachers and widows, staffs a local medical clinic, runs a tailoring school, operates an inland fishery, administers disaster relief and provides clean drinking water in poor neighborhoods. Below is a story from Pastor Babu, founder of Orphans Faith Home.

Nearly 15 years ago, while praying for the villages and islands near Orphans Faith Home, I was led by God to go to a river island that was known for its poisonous snakes, rampant thievery, idol worship and witchcraft. The Gospel of Jesus had never been preached to this island, and it was regarded as the most dangerous island in the area.

I took two fellow believers with me to the island, and we spent the first night with a family in a small hut, praying for the island. The family was so blessed by our meeting that they invited us to conduct another meeting the following week.

At the second meeting, five families gathered and we spent the whole night singing, praising God and sharing the love of Jesus. The next morning, as we began our departure from the island, nearly 50 people in a mob approached us with knives and sticks to beat and kill us. Miraculously, the five families from the previous night’s meeting defended us, risking their lives to protect us. By God’s grace, the leader of the mob gave me a second chance, threatening to kill and bury me if I ever returned to the island.

After returning home, I earnestly prayed for the island and the families who had helped us. After two weeks, I left again for the island with two other pastors, prepared for any danger. When we reached the island, one of the five families met us and joyfully shared how God had healed the fatal illnesses of a few of their family members. The miracles had spread throughout the island.

The mob leader’s daughter, who was very ill and near death, heard and believed that Jesus could heal her if she went to one of our prayer meetings. That night we held a prayer meeting with the five families and the mob leader’s daughter attended. After many hours, God healed the girl, and she sat up, asking for water. We all praised God for this incredible miracle.

In the middle of the night, the mob leader heard about our prayer meeting, and was so angry that he came with his people to kill me. As they approached the meeting, they saw the mob leader’s daughter was among us, praying, sitting and drinking water. Shocked, the leader ran into the meeting and found his daughter was alive, smiling at her father and testifying that Jesus had healed her. The leader fell to his knees and cried, seeing the great miracle in his daughter’s life. We praise God that since that day, the island has been opened to the Gospel. At the end of June 2011, India Partners will collaborate with a team of engineers to build a sea wall that will prevent land erosion on this island. What an incredible example of God’s faithfulness since Pastor Babu’s first visit to this island 15 years ago.
