Kiran’s Story

Kiran and his family live in a river island village. He provides for his family of five that includes himself, his wife, two children, and his elderly father. For three months out of the year, he sells fish and crabs he catches in the surrounding river to support his family. During the other months, he travels to surrounding villages and works as a day laborer.

When work was no longer available, he returned to his village and borrowed money, with interest, to provide for his family. Kiran fell ill and became very depressed because he could not work and was unable to even repay the interest amount on the borrowed money each month.

At that time, the pastor from a local church came and comforted him. The pastor helped Kiran and his family get a water buffalo through funds provided by India Partners.

Now Kiran is very happy that he is able to earn an income by selling the water buffalo’s milk. He is confident that he will now be able to clear his debt and provide for his family without borrowing money again. Kiran is grateful to God and India Partners for this project.

You can help families become self-sufficient with animals such as water buffaloes and goats by donating to our micro-loan fund. Please click "Donate Now" and select “Buffaloes” or “Goats” from the Program Area drop-down menu. Thank you.
