Schools, Literacy and Training

Schools, Literacy and Training

  • 35% of the people in India cannot read or write
  • One-third of India's children cannot attend elementary school, usually because there is no local school to attend

India Partners is serving these needs through literacy training for children and families in remote villages, educational outreach to those in prison, computer training for the disabled, and tailoring schools for women and their families.

Food

Food and Shelter

  • 35% of the world's malnourished children under age 5 live in India, totaling 55 million in India, alone
  • 42% of Indians live below the poverty line

India Partners is serving these needs through the gift of a buffalo for needy families, bunk beds for children at an orphanage, rebuilding homes lost in the 2004 Asian tsunami, and housing for those learning vocational skills.

Health

Health Care

  • In India, infant mortality is 49 deaths per 1000
  • Infectious disease risk is high for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis A, typhoid fever, dengue fever, encephalitis, rabies and malaria

India Partners is serving these needs by providing medicines to families in need, conducting medical clinics in jungle villages, and using mobile medical vans to travel to remote areas with little access to health care.
