EUGENE, OR, Nov. 9, 2011 – India Partners 2011 Gifts Worth Giving catalog provides an opportunity to empower those living in extreme poverty in India through 12 sustainable gift ideas. With 37% of India’s 1.2 billion people living on 50 cents per day (2011 Indian Census), providing the training and tools needed to generate income is an effective way to empower the poor.
New this year, microloans for women ($125), and seeds/fertilizers for poor farmers ($70) provide men and women with practical skills and the financial support necessary to produce sustainable incomes all year long.
Other life-sustaining gift ideas include:
- Insecticide-treated mosquito nets ($10) for protection against malaria.
- Sewing machines ($95) and fishing nets ($75) to enable income generation for the poor.
- Goats ($110) to produce milk that can be sold for sustainable wages.
- Water wells ($155) to provide clean water and prevent the spread of waterborne illnesses.
“Each gift in our Gifts Worth Giving catalog is carefully selected to enable the greatest impact for the poor in India,” says Brent Hample, President of India Partners. “Gifts like these literally help someone to live another day.”
Each tax-deductible gift includes a suggested donation, ranging from $10-$155. All gifts may be given in honor of a loved one, who will then receive a holiday card with a personalized message informing them of the gift given on their behalf.
The Gifts Worth Giving catalog can be viewed at IndiaPartners.org, or paper catalogs are available by calling toll-free 877-87-INDIA.
