Portland “basketball” mom advocates for human trafficking victims in India at nonprofit fundraising banquet on Oct. 22
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 20, 2011
PORTLAND, OR, October 20, 2011 – Amy Thomas, mother and youth basketball coach from Portland, Oregon traveled to India with India Partners in September 2011 to work with women and children living in urban red-light districts and rural villages.
This Saturday, Oct. 22 at 6:30pm, Thomas will share her experiences at India Partners Portland Benefit Banquet - “For the Love of India.”
“Two years ago I heard the story of a young girl who was sold to a brothel by her uncle,” Thomas said. “With a language barrier and constant abuse, she managed to survive and escape the [sex] trade. I traveled to India to meet her and others still trapped in oppression. I wanted to bring hope and encouragement, and I left India forever changed.”
Heather Hintze, reporter from KEZI TV, will also share her experience serving on a recent volunteer team to India. The media are invited to interview Amy Thomas or Heather Hintze prior to the event. Photo opportunities are also available.
In addition, the event will feature an interactive Indian bazaar, exhibiting India Partners various relief and development projects. Guests will have the chance to win local and international prizes in a silent auction and raffle, including a trip for two to Mexico.
