Eugene, OR, March 3, 2011— India Partners (www.IndiaPartners.org) joined World Vision, the ONE Campaign, and 28 broad faith-based organizations in the U.S. to urge senators to reverse the destructive spending cuts to international humanitarian aid approved last week.
A letter to Senate members on Tuesday, signed by Brent Hample, President of India Partners, and other leaders, voiced concern for the sever cutbacks to life-saving programs and those that invest in our national security, including:
The letter also called attention to the fact that the international humanitarian assistance accounts represent less than ½ of 1 percent of the total federal budget. The cuts to these accounts will minimally affect the overall balance of the budget.
“We strongly urge you to understand that smart and responsible investments that save millions of lives and help stabilize areas of great strategic and security interests to the United States are the very programs we should prioritize,” says the letter.
Along with India Partners, World Vision and the ONE Campaign, 28 groups also joined the letter including, Adventist Development and Relief Agency, Alliance to End Hunger, American Baptist Churches, American Jewish World Service, American Leprosy Missions, Bread for the World, Catholic Medical Mission Board, Evangelical Environmental Network, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Evangelicals for Social Action, Food for the Hungry, Heartland Alliance for Human Needs and Human Rights, National Association of Evangelicals, One Day’s Wages, Operation Blessing International, Reformed Church in America, Sojourners, World Concern and World Relief.
