Rekha's journey is a testament to her strength and resilience in the face of adversity. Growing up without a mother and with a very sick father, she had to take care of her family from a young age. In search of employment, she was deceived and sold into the sex trade in Mumbai, where she faced unimaginable abuse. Her addiction alcohol made her situation even more challenging, and her relationship with her children was strained.

Our partners patiently built a relationship with Rekha encouraging her to get help. With incredible bravery, Rekha admitted her children to one of our safe houses while she found the strength to go to a treatment center.

Today, has left the sex trade, is free from alcohol, has completed vocational training and works as a Sari artisan, crafting intricate beadwork for Indian Sari’s.

Dosuri knows what it's like to go to bed hungry. Despite a hard-working husband, there are just too many mouths to feed-10 in her household.

Desperate for meaningful employment, Dosuri was offered the opportunity to learn at our tailoring schools, putting in time on the farm in the morning and training in the afternoons. Six months later, she graduated and was thrilled to receive a new sewing machine- a gift from you!

Now Dosuri can stitch clothing for everyone in her family! With this newfound skill, she plans to help others in her community too. The joy and gratitude in Dosuri's voice are palpable as she expresses the impact that the tailoring program has made on her life.

Dadala's life took an unexpected turn when she lost her husband, leaving her to manage their household on her own. It was a tough road, when it came to making ends meet, Dadala was at a loss.

That's when you provided her with a remarkable opportunity - raising chickens and selling the eggs. A simple idea that has made a world of difference. We gave her chickens and supplies and taught her how to raise them! Dadala is now only able to support herself financially in the face of tragedy.

Imagine living with the knowledge that your body may not always be on your side. That's the reality that Vimala faces every day as she battles Multiple Sclerosis. Despite this, she lives her life with optimism.

Vimala faced her limitations head on and signed up for a speech competition. Though it would take her longer to write out her speech, and even longer to practice it, she never gave up. Her unwavering determination and hard work paid off when she walked away with second prize!  Showing herself and her family that she is not giving up accomplishing the impossible!
